Design of Long Acting Injectable Drug Delivery Systems to Optimise API Performance
There is an increasing demand for parenteral drug delivery due to its advantage for APIs with poor oral bioavailability, short half-life, narrow therapeutic index, and for large drug molecules and biological compounds. To improve the therapeutic profile and plasma levels, frequent injections are often inconvenient for patients and sometimes impractical as a chronic treatment. Parenteral depot formulations are designed to overcome these problems by delivering the drug in a predictable manner at a controlled rate, thus enhancing the therapeutic effect of the drug.

Every product with its desired performance characteristics requires a specific formulation and process development approach. To achieve this, we are able to work on different technologies including:
- Aqueous and oily micro- and nanosuspensions and oily solutions
- Biodegradable polymeric microparticles (various microencapsulation methods)
- Biodegradable polymeric implants (hot melt extrusion, in situ forming implants)
- Lipidic implants and micro- and nanoparticles
- Liposomes
